Man jailed for taking air pistol to Stansted Airport
A man has been jailed for two years and three months after being found with an air pistol and pellets at Stansted Airport.
Yuksel Demirtas, 39, of Granville Street, Peterborough, appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court on August 27 for sentencing having been found guilty of possessing a dangerous article in an aerodrome and possession of cannabis at an earlier trial on June 22.
Demirtas was stopped by security staff in the central search area of Stansted Airport on November 2, 2014. They discovered a silver air pistol, 111 pellets and a magazine containing seven pellets, as well as a balaclava and toiletries bag containing gas canisters. His hold luggage was subsequently searched and 42 grams of herbal cannabis was seized.
