King's Lynn Stars' speedway rider Lewis Kerr is in a stable condition in hospital after suffering severe head injuries in a crash during a race at Peterborough.

Kerr, who's 25, crashed riding for his lower-level club Newcastle at the Premier League Fours meeting.

The event was stopped, and subsequently abandoned. Other riders were visibly upset by what had happened. Lewis's family, including his pregnant wife were at the stadium watching.

The rider from Heacham was flown to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge by air ambulance where he remains in an induced coma.
