He's the current US Ambassador in London and can trace his ancestry back to a small village in Suffolk. Matthew Winthrop Barzun is related to John Winthrop, former Lord of the Manor of Groton near Sudbury.

He sold his land in 1630 and set sail for New England on board the Arbella. He then went on to help found the city of Boston and became the first Governor of Massachusetts.

Matthew Barzun spent the day in Gorton seeing where his ancestor lived and worked and visiting the church where he is interred.
