Police carry out river search in hunt for murder weapon
Specialist search teams from Essex Police have been searching a river as part of their investigation into the murders of two people in Colchester.
They spent the day at the waterside along the Wivenhoe Trail using metal detectors to search a 40-meter section of the River Colne.
Officers say it's based on new information in their hunt for possible murder weapons used in the two unsolved murders in the town.
The search area is only a mile away from the Salary Brook Trail where Nahid Almanea was fatally stabbed 16 times on June 17 last year.
James Attfield was targeted in a similar brutal and frenzied attack. He was stabbed more than 100 times in Lower Castle Park in Colchester.
A 16-year-old boy from Colchester has been arrested and charged with the murders. He appeared at court today and was remanded in custody to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on Monday.
