Birdwatchers flock to Norfolk to spot rare finch
The Norfolk coast is used to hosting visitors from across the country. But a very special guest from the mountains of Europe has got many a bird watcher's heart fluttering.
The Citril Finch normally inhabits the mountains of south west Europe from Spain to the Alps and are not birds which usually migrate. It was spotted on Sunday morning in Burnham Overy dunes by Marcus Nash who runs bird walking company Birdtours
It is the second recorded sighting of a citril finch in Britain - the first was in 2008 when one was spotted on Fair Isle off Scotland. But despite a few early morning sightings in Norfolk many of the hundreds of birders who walked the mile or so out to the dunes failed to spot this small, well disguised songbird.
