An appearance in support of the Labour party by television cook and Norwich City shareholder Delia Smith has had to be cancelled and another scaled back.

The author was due to visit sixth form students in Kent as part of the Thanet South constituency candidate's election campaign.

A spokesman for the party said engagement had to be cancelled - just three hours before it was due to take place - because of a diary "mix up".

A later visit aimed at undecided voters in Sandwich has also been closed to the media.

It comes just a day after Smith revealed her allegiance to Labour, claiming it was the party with a "fresh approach" whose "ideas and vision need to be heard".

She appeared alongside Ed Miliband and Ed Balls at an event in Brighton on Monday.
