Could 'vocally exhausted' Sam Smith be doubt for Big Weekend in Norwich?
The singer Sam Smith has cancelled his Australian tour due to a haemorrhage on his vocal cords.
The Cambridgeshire star is still expected to play at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend at Earlham park in Norwich from May 23 to May 24.
The Grammy award-winning star, 22, said he had been "vocally exhausted".
Smith performed in Sydney's Hordern Pavilion and was due to take to the stage in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth in late April and early May.
The In The Lonely Hour tour is set to continue in Japan, the US and Europe.
Smith wrote on his Instagram page: "I am deeply, deeply saddened to tell my Australian fans, I have to cancel my Australian tour.
"I have been vocally exhausted for a while now, however last night in Sydney I had a small haemorrhage on my vocal cords.
"The doctors have told me I need to fully rest until my vocal cords have healed, otherwise this could become a huge, long-term issue."
The Stay With Me singer apologised to fans who have bought tickets and said new dates would be announced, before signing off: "This kills me."
