MP's have today been leaving Westminster for the final time before the general election - and for some of the region's MP's it will be the final time ever.

Braintree MP Brooks Newmark was at the peak of his political career when last September he was forced to resign his ministerial job and announce he wouldn't run at the General Eleciton.

A newspaper revealed he had sent explicit photos and texts to an undercover reporter he thought was a party activitist.

Talking to ITV News Anglia, Mr Newmark said that he has had fantastic support from local constituents.

He described his actions as "self-destruction" after years of achievement and pressure and added that the pressure of parliament probably contributed towards his downfall.

As politicians now seek approval from voters, come May 7, this political career may not be the only one to end in tears.
