After nearly 30 years of campaigning, the final stretch of dual carriageway on the A11 has opened.

Transport Secretary, Patrick McLoughlin, was on hand for the official opening as traffic at one of our region's most notorious bottlenecks ran freely.

MPs and business owners say the new road will bring in major benefits to the area.

A11 dualling - the facts:

  • The cost of the project is projected to be in excess of £100million

  • Full construction started in January 2013

  • An estimated 25,000 vehicles travel the route every day

  • A stretch of road 9.1 miles in distance between the Fiveways roundabout at Barton Mills and Thetford in Norfolk is now dual carriageway
