Construction worker back home after he was crushed by dumper truck

Jamie Burnett nearly died when he was crushed by a dumper truck on the A14.

A 26 year old construction worker from Northamptonshire, who nearly died when he was crushed by a dumper truck, is back home in Desborough after months recovering in hospital.

Jamie Burnett was at work on the A14 when the accident happened. He only survived because of the quick action of his colleagues, and the emergency services.

His colleagues Adam and Jim used their clothes to make tourniquets, stemming the bleeding until the emergency services arrived.

Jamie's injuries were horrific - a shattered pelvis, ruptured colon, and one leg broken in three places. He lost three quarters of his blood.

The East Midlands ambulance arrived, then the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance. Within an hour Jamie was in hospital in Coventry, having gone via Kettering General for a blood transfusion.

Jamie broke his leg in three places.

On a regular day, the air ambulance might be called out four times, each trip costing on average £1700. That's for the helicopter, fuel, and putting specialist equipment and doctors on board.

As a thank you, Jamie's employer bmJV is running a charity auction for the service, which runs on donations.
