The centuries old rivalry between Cambridge and Oxford Universities is about to take a new twist as the two seats of learning go head to head on the racecourse.

The first ever varsity horse race takes place on Friday 17 October as part of Newmarket's Future Champions meeting.

They've been rowing against each other, playing cricket and rugby against each other and even fencing against each other for generations.

But believe it or not Cambridge and Oxford are breaking new ground. History will be made at Newmarket's Rowley Mile as rival students take part in horse racing's first varsity match.

James Alexander and Ginny Fellows are among five Cambridge jockeys who will race against their Oxford counterparts.
