Bedfordshire air crash: Police name dead pilot
The pilot of a light aircraft has died after a mid-air collision with another plane over the Bedfordshire countryside.
It happened near the A1 on the Bedfordshire - Cambridgeshire border. One of the aircraft crash-landed in a field, the other was able to land nearby.
Smashed wreckage was left laying in a field alongside the A1 in Bedfordshire, it's all that remains of the light aircraft which fell from the sky after a mid air collision. Investigators have been slowly picky picking through the pieces.
It's understood the wrecked aircraft was a Kitfox plane which is officially classed as a micro light
Police say its likely it took off from an airfield in Sandy but officers are still continuing with their investigations.
The other plane involved in the incident was a 4 seater Cesna. It sustained minor damage and It flew on to Thurleigh airfield about 15 miles away and made a safe landing.
Police have named the pilot as 46-year-old Stephen Spavins from Spalding.
The Air Accident Investigation Board is continuing to investigate.
