Double tragedy on the first day of the school holidays
15 year old Rony John couldn't swim, but yesterday he decided to join his friends and jump into the river. The question is why?
It's a question frineds have been asking each other - and themselves. They saw him panic and tried to save him but Rony disappeared under the water.
Another friend told ITV News Anglia: "He was such a bubbly lad and it shouldn't have happened to him, he was so nice."
While another said: "He wasn't allowed to swim with the school when we went to do PE because he wasn't allowed to, because he couldn't swim. Even with a lifeguard he didn't want to go in."
A search operation was launched just after half past 3:30pm yesterday and continued well into the night.
Neighbours saw Rony walking down to the river a few minutes before he drowned. They said teenagers jump into the river here. Sometimes after dark.
In Clophill in Bedfordshire the emergency services have launched an underwater search for a second teenager, missing, feared drowned, who went for a swim yesterday.
The Broads Authority says the dangers are often hidden.
