Colchester landmark sold to local farmer
The ‘Jumbo’ water tower in Colchester town centre has been sold to a local farmer for £190,000.
The Grade II* listed building went under the auctioneer’s hammer in London.
It’s the largest Victorian water tower in England and has been sold to a local poultry farmer, Paul Flatman, from Wormingford.
A proxy bid of £140,000 by the Balkerne Tower Trust, a charity that wanted to make the tower into a museum and viewing gallery, failed to secure the building.
The tower was sold by George Braithwaite, a developer who bought it for £330,000 eight years ago.
