New bus station replaces famous monstrosity
Bus users in Northampton have had their first chance to look round the town's new North Gate bus station. The 7 million pound building replaces the old run-down Greyfriars bus station, which has frequently been voted one of the ugliest buildings in the country.
The site was officially opened by the borough and county councils - which have jointly funded the project and plenty of passengers came to take a look. Some critics though say its replacement is too small.
How the new site copes with frequent arrivals and departures will only become clear when weekday services start running on Monday.
