Otters make a welcome return to Market Harborough

Two welcome visitors have returned to Market Harborough in Leicestershire, and are causing quite a buzz in the town.

Yes, a pair of otters have been seen swimming in the River Welland, and it looks like they are there to stay.

The rare creatures were captured on camera by keen wildlife spotter James Burman.

The otter population in England had all but died out by the late 1970's, mainly due to pollution.

Thanks to careful conservation and banning toxic pesticides the otter has a fighting chance of survival. They like to live in holes around water edges.

There's no doubt Otters are the comeback kids of the riverbank - once they were almost lost from the english countryside now their numbers are slowly rising.
