Norfolk flooding information
Residents living in coastal areas in Norfolk likely to be affected by flooding will receive information on evacuation plans from Norfolk Police.
The evacuation is expected to last around 36-48 hours which covers three anticipated high tides.
Where possible Norfolk Police are advising people they should make arrangements to stay with friends or relatives who do not live in the affected areas.
For those who cannot do this rest centres are being set up throughout the county.
Areas affected in Great Yarmouth include:
South Yarmouth
North Yarmouth
Caister
Southtown
Cobholm
At 4:00pm 61 properties will be evacuated in the East Quay, The Quay and Freeman Street areas of Great Yarmouth.
Rest centres in Great Yarmouth areas are expected to open from 2pm, at the following locations:
Sandbags can be picked up from the following locations around Great Yarmouth:
Beach Coach Station
Pasteur Road car park (opposite Topps Tiles)
Southgates Road
Quay Road
Gorleston by the toilets
Runham Road junction
Beaconsfield Road (Northgate end)
Please be aware sand and bags are available, people need to bring their own shovels.
Areas affected in Wells-next-the-Sea:
In Wells, Pinewood Caravan Park has evacuated 22 touring vans. The flood barrier in the town will be closed at 5:00pm, alongside the following roads:
Polka Road
Stanley Road
Freeman Street
A rest centre will be set up at Alderman Peel High School in Market Lane in Wells.
Other areas affected include:
Blakeney: 30 properties are to be evacuated. The Blakeney Hotel has 66 people staying, they will be closing the flood door.
Salthouse: Some 23 properties will be evacuated and at 5pm, a road closure will be put in place on the A149 coast road.
Walcott: 52 properties have to be evacuated and the coast road will be closed.
King's Lynn: The South Quay car park along the quay side will be closed from 3pm. Anyone parking their car is asked to remove it before this time.
Shepherd’s Port area of Snettisham, coastal areas of Heacham and South Hunstanton have received evacuation notices. Approximately 500 homes properties in that area are affected and residents are being asked to leave for their own safety.
A rest centre has been set up at Hunstanton Community Centre in Avenue Road for those affected. Advice includes
Residents are reminded to take any medication and valuables they may need with them when they leave.
Members of the public are asked never to wade through any flood water, even if it is still. Drain covers can shift during flooding and pose a danger to anyone wading through the area.
Members of the public are asked to stay away from flooding areas, particularly riversides and seaside areas.
Road closures will be in place for public safety and pedestrians are also strongly advised to avoid these areas.
Indications are that high tides are likely to start in *King's Lynn *at around 7pm today before affecting the other mentioned areas.
Norfolk Police warn the public should be on the alert for any further warnings from the Environment Agency.
