Areas of Northamptonshire on flood alert over Christmas and New Year
More heavy rainfall could result in flooding in Northamptonshire over the Christmas and New Year period.
Five flood warnings have now been issued for Northamptonshire.
Norman Robinson from the Environment Agency said: “We’ve coped well with the rain that has come to date but are expecting more on Saturday and Monday.
"Whilst at this stage we don’t believe we will need to issue more flood warnings, there is a real possibility that rain could be heavier than expected.
"As a result, everyone needs to remain vigilant. If you are in a flood warning area, you should have an evacuation plan and ensure you regularly check the Environment Agency’s website."
Superintendent Gary Ashton from Northamptonshire Police added: “All agencies have worked together to ensure a coordinated response to the weather we’ve been experiencing and the risk of flooding this is presenting.
“The multi-agency group is working closely with Billing Aquadrome management and Cogenhoe Mill Holiday Park to ensure they have appropriate plans in place to deal with any flooding that occurs over the Christmas and New Year period.
"We recognise this is the holiday period so have worked to minimise the risk and disruption to people across the county."
Drivers are urged to take extra care on the roads and observe any road closure signs due to flooding. Boat owners are also encouraged to think about where they are mooring up, avoiding proximity to flood plains.
