Hundreds turn out as EDL marches in Norwich
Around 250 English Defence League marchers have taken to the streetsof Norwich for the first time.A counter demonstration is taking place by a group called We areNorwich which has attracted 650 people.Police have advised shops and other businesses to carry on as normaldespite the influx of protestors.The EDL march was sparked by a Norwich City Council ban on a preacheraccused of promoting "hate motivated" leaflets from a stall at HayHill.The arrival of the EDL in Norwich has been condemned by trade unionsand politicians including the MP for Norwich North Chloe SmithPolice say they are keeping residents and businesses informed aboutthe event and have drafted in officers from other forces to ensure theprotests remain peaceful.So far only one minor scuffle has been reported resulting in one arrest.
