Ipswich Town look set to name Mick McCarthy as their new manager.

The former Wolves boss emerged as the bookies favourite earlier in the week to succeed Paul Jewell who left the club by mutual consent.

It is understood McCarthy's coaching staff will include former Ipswich Town skipper Matt Holland.

If appointed, McCarthy will become Ipswich's 14th manager since the Second World War, and the fourth since chairman Marcus Evans took over at Portman Road.

McCarthy has been out of work since losing his job as Wolves manager back in February.

His managerial career includes a spell as boss of the Republic of Ireland during which he took them to the World Cup Finals in 2002.
