Punch and Judy get modern makeover

Punch and Judy men across our region say their shows don't incite violence and shoudl remain good traditional fun.

They reacted to news that a new production of Punch and Judy is about to debut in London and will include puppets of Simon Cowell and Madonna and won't include any hitting.

Punch and Judy originally came to this country from Italy in 1662 and was mentioned by the diarist, Samuel Pepys.

But modern day puppeteers say children understand the difference between fantasy and real life and aren't influenced by any scenes of violence.
