Marc Webber has won the British Formula One Grand Prix at Silverstone - his second victory of the 2012 season.

The Australian driver, with Red Bull Racing of Milton Keynes, finished ahead of Spain's Fernando Alonso in the Ferrari. Webber's teammate Sebastien Vettel came third.

Alonso, who started in pole position, had led throughout the race until lap 48 out of 52 when he was passed by Webber.

There was no joy for the British trio. Stevenage born Lewis Hamilton finished eighth, his McLaren teammate Jenson Button came in tenth, while Paul Di Resta suffered a puncture in his Silverstone produced Force India car in the first lap and went out of the race.

The Norfolk based Caterham team had a setback before the race even started with Vitaly Petrov's car failing to make the grid because of engine failure.

Alonso's lead in the driver's championship has now been cut to 13 points. So the top six are:

Fernando Alonso - 129 ptsMarc Webber - 116 ptsSebastien Vettel - 100 ptsLewis Hamilton - 92 ptsKimi Raikkonen - 83 ptsNico Rosberg - 75 pts

With all the problems caused by the rain for racegoers over the Grand Prix weekend, not a drop fell during the race which started and finished in sunshine.
