Cambridgeshire athlete Robbie Grabarz has clinched his first major title at the European Championships in Helsinki, Finland.

The 24 year old from St Neots won the men's high jump final ahead of Lithuania's Raivydas Stanys. Both cleared 2.31 metres, but Grabarz took the gold medal on count-back. Both athletes failed at 2.33metres.

It was Team GB's second gold at the championships, following Mo Farrah's victory in the men's 5,000 metres final on Wednesday (June 27).

In the women's javelin, Goldie Sayers from Newmarket, Suffolk just missed out on a medal.

The 28 year old finished fourth - her best throw of 63.01 metres not enough to claim a place on the podium.

Vira Rebryk took the title for the Ukraine with a winning throw of 66.86 metres.
