Lowestoft air show prepares for first weekend date

The Lowestoft Air Show starts tomorrow - the first time in its 16 year history that it has been held over a weekend, it has been brought forward so it does not clash with the London Olympics.

Nearly 40 aircraft will fly over the two days with the world-famous Red Arrows closing the show on both days.

Among the show highlights will be the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, the return of the Eurofighter Typhoon and the historic B17, the Sally B, the Red Bull Matadors aerobatic team and the Breitling Wingwalkers.

The event costs more than £300,000 to stage and organisers are hoping everyone attending will donate £3 as an entrance fee.

For the first time this year, people who pay for admission will get a 60-page event programme containing more than £170 of money-off vouchers.

Extra trains and increased car parking have been put on and a new car park has been set up at Riverside Road in Lowestoft.

All official air festival parking costs £10 per car with a park and ride service from Dip Farm at Corton - including a free shuttle bus service.

Trains will run from Norwich to Lowestoft tomorrow at 9.28am, 9.50am,10.25am,11.25am and 11.50am, and from Lowestoft to Norwich at 4.15pm, 5.45pm and 6.20pm.

Extra trains will run from Norwich to Lowestoft on Sunday at 9.30am,10am,10.06am,10.40am,

11.25am and 11.49am and 3.40pm; and from Lowestoft to Norwich at 4.52pm, 5.35pm,6.15pm and 6.52pm.

Trains between Ipswich and Lowestoft via Beccles will run as normal with two additional services on Sunday: 8.32am Woodbridge to Lowestoft and 5.30pm Lowestoft to Ipswich.
