Essex cricketers pay tribute to Tom Maynard
Essex County Cricket coach Paul Grayson says the death of Surrey cricketer Tom Maynard came as a shock to everyone at the club.
Maynard, who was 23, died on Monday morning after being hit by a London Underground train.
The Metropolitan police said a man matching his description ran away after a car being driven ‘erratically’ was stopped shortly before.
Essex are due to host Surrey in their second home game of this season’s Friends Life T20 competition on Friday night (June 22).
Grayson said:
Essex batsman Alastair Cook led the England team as they held a minute’s silence ahead of today’s One Day International with the West Indies at The Kia Oval, in memory of Maynard.
