A young footballer appeared in court today (Thursday) charged with the murder of 15-year-old schoolgirl Megan-Leigh Peat from Flitwick in Bedfordshire.

Andrew Hall, who is 18 and a footballer at Stoke City's youth academy, has appeared in custody at Luton Magistrates Court.

Following his arrest in the early hours of Saturday, he spent a number of days in hospital, under guard, having suffered a serious cut to his hand.

Today he appeared in the dock with his left hand and forearm heavily strapped up. The 18-year-old is accused of the teenager's murder in the early hours of Saturday morning at a house in Ampthill, Bedfordshire.

Megan was found stabbed at the house in Ailesbury Road, Ampthill, after emergency services were called to the property.

Andrew Hall, of Robin Close, Flitwick, spoke only to confirm his name and age.

He was remanded in custody to next appear at Luton Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on June 26.
