Essex competitor for Olympic Shooting team
Team GB's Olympic Shooting team will have a competitor from Essex at London 2012. James
Huckle from Harlow was named in the squad of ten today (May 28) unveiled at the Tower of London.
The 22-year-old won five medals, including three silvers, for England at the Commonwealth games in Delhi two years ago.
Huckle, a triple gold medallist at the Commonwealth Youth games in 2008, said 'For any athlete to be selected for Team GB in any Olympics is such a proud moment. But to be selected for the Olympics on home soil is just fantastic. It's a dream come true for me'.
Huckle won't have far to travel to compete in the shooting events. The venue, the Royal ArtilleryBarracks, is less than thirty miles from his home town. And he won't be short of support.
'We've been really lucky. The national governing bodies for shooting have got a lot of tickets for the events' Huckle said. 'I've invited a lot of friends and family, some of which have never seen me ever compete before.
'The venue will be the closest shooting ground of that scale to my home, so yes it will be a unique experience for me'.
Huckle has just returned from competing at the ISSF World Cup event in Munich, Germany, and said the selection process was very tough.
'We all needed to be on top of our game right up to the very end', Huckle added.
'We've just come back from a World Cup event in the past week where I shot two points below my personal best. It was a tough day, but I'm very happy with the performances that I've had recently, and hopefully it can continue'.
