Hatters in promotion play-off final

Wembley awaits for Luton Town

It's been three long years, but by 5 o'clock this evening, Luton Town fans might once again be able to say they follow a Football League club.

28,000 Hatters fans are heading for Wembley today (May 20) for Luton's Blue Square Premier promotion play-off final against York City.

Previous encounters between the two sides have ended in trouble on and off the pitch, but both clubs are promising this will be an amicable meeting, whatever the result.

Luton were relegated from League Two in May 2009, having been docked 30 points at the start of the season for financial irregularities.

In their first season in the Football Conference, Luton reached the play-offs, losing the semi-final to York City over two legs.

Last season they made it all the way to the play-off final, only to lose 4-3 on penalties to AFC Wimbledon.

Hatters fans will hope they can go one better and make it third time lucky this afternoon.
