Peace vigil to be held ahead of EDL demonstration

A peace vigil is being held in Luton later ahead of a protest by the English Defence League (EDL).

A counter demonstration is also planned by those opposing the EDL under the banner We are Luton.**

**Both groups have been prevented from protesting through the town centre.

Luton Borough Council said it wants the town centre to be open as usual and heavy police presence will be in the town.**

**A handful of shops have decided to close tomorrow and others are boarding their windows.

The peace vigil has been organised by Luton Council of Faiths and will be held at St Mary’s Church in the town centre at 4.30pm. **
