Plenty of mud for the annual Maldon Mud Race
The heavy rainfall meant there was plenty of mud for the annual Maldon Mud Race at Promenade Park this afternoon. More than 280 people braved the elements to compete in the race along the River Blackwater. The route was changed at the last minute to avoid areas of deep water.
The 500-yard race dates back to a pub bet in the 1970s and attracts runners from as far afield as Japan and Australia. Last year the race was held at Easter, after its original December date was postponed because of the extreme cold weather.
