Body found after gas explosion in flat

The body of an elderly woman has been discovered after a possible gas explosion in her flat.

Crews were called to the house in Willoughby Court, Welland at about 6am.

One of the flats on the first floor was alight and part of the building had collapsed, causing it to be structurally unsafe.

The attendance of a structural engineer from Peterborough City Council was requested.

A fire investigation is taking place this morning, along with the Crime Scene Investigators from the police.
