Health Secretary opens Eco Hub
The new building has been officially opened by Health Secretary, Andrew Lansley.
All three major eco technologies feature in the design. Ground Source Heat and Solar Roof Panels provide the heat and hot water, and Photovoltaic Roof Tiles convert sunlight to electricity.
The Eco Hub will also be the new permanent home for Gamlingay Parish Council; the Library and a Children's Nursery. The building can also be used for sport events - complete with Football Association standard changing rooms and showers.
John Mercer, chair of the Community Centre Management Committee, said:
"Building the Hub has been a truly local effort - we have used local builders, craftsmen and materials and many local businesses have supported us with materials and money.
We have had massive support within the village with volunteers giving their time and expertise to help keep the building project on track... It takes a lot of effort to deliver a building like this and we had a lot of help from the people of Gamlingay."
