Teacher and teenage student killed in shooting at US private Christian school
Three people, including the suspect, are dead and several others injured after a shooting at a Christian school in the US, local police said.
Police believed the gunman was a student at the Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, the state capital of Wisconsin.
Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said police officers who responded to the shooting on Monday did not fire their weapons.
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” Madison police said in a statement.
“More information will be released as it is available. We currently need people to avoid the area.”
Police had blocked off roads around the school on Monday afternoon.
President Joe Biden has been briefed on the Madison, Wisconsin, school shooting, a White House spokesperson said.
In a statement Wisconsin governor Tony Evers said: “We are praying for the kids, educators, and entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information and are grateful for the first responders who are working quickly to respond.”
Abundant Life Christian School is non-denominational and has about 390 students, from kindergarten through high school, according to its website.
