Princess Royal suffered 'concussion and minor injuries' following an incident on Sunday
The Princess Royal received medical care at the scene and is expected to make a full and swift recovery, ITV News' Royal Editor Chris Ship reports.
The Princess Royal “has sustained minor injuries and concussion” following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate on Sunday evening and remains in hospital for observation, Buckingham Palace has said.
A Palace spokesperson said Princess Anne is "recovering well, is in a comfortable condition, and is being kept in hospital as a precautionary measure for further observation".
It is understood the princess was walking within the protected perimeter of Gatcombe Park estate when an incident occurred.
She has suffered minor wounds to the head.
The exact cause of the injuries is unconfirmed, but Anne’s medical team have said that her head injuries were consistent with a potential impact from a horse’s head or legs.
The Princess Royal received medical care at the scene before being transferred to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for tests, treatment and observation, and was accompanied by her husband Vice Admiral Tim Laurence.
A statement from Buckingham Palace said: “The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening. Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery.
"The King has been kept closely informed and joins the whole royal family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to The Princess for a speedy recovery."
No details are being shared of the kind of treatment the princess is receiving, but the Palace say she is having "appropriate expert care".
The Princess' engagements for this week, including attending a State banquet as part of a Japanese State Visit, have been cancelled.
The Palace said "Her Royal Highness sends her apoologies to any who may be imconvienced or disappointed."
