Scotland's 1-1 against Switzerland keeps Euros dream alive
ITV News' Geraint Vincent reports on a match which has given fresh hope to the Tartan Army.
Scotland drew 1-1 with Switzerland in their Euro 2024 group match in Cologne reigniting their hopes of staying in the tournament.
After their depressing 5-1 loss in their opening game against Germany Scotland rebounded thanks to Scott McTominay header in the 13th minute against the Swiss.
Their hopes of a win were dashed with Xherdan Shaqiri's goal in the 26th minute after a poor pass from defender Anthony Ralston and the remainder of the match saw Scotland struggling to contain the Swiss.
Germany beat Hungary 2-0 earlier in the day and are on six points, Switzerland are on four with Scotland on one ahead of the final game against bottom side Hungary on Sunday as they look to qualify for the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time.
Manager Steve Clarke knew he had to get something from the game and he made one enforced change with centre-back Hanley in for the banned Ryan Porteous, while midfielder Billy Gilmour came in for Ryan Christie.
Scotland began the second half with determination but the Swiss still looked stronger and in the 56th minute keeper Angus Gunn saved one from Ruben Vargas before Dan Ndoye missed the target with a great chance, after getting past Kieran Tierney.
Tierney was left in agony after the challenge and was carried off on a stretcher, which would be a huge blow if he remains injured for future games.
Neither side could find the winner and Scotland’s Euro 2024 future will be decided on matchday three against the pointless Hungarians.
England are looking to secure their spot in the next stage with a win against Denmark on Wednesday after beating Serbia 1-0 in the opening match.
