How the Clapham chemical attack and resulting police search for suspect Abdul Ezedi has unfolded
The suspect of a chemical substance attack in London is on the run.
Abdul Ezedi, 35, is wanted by police in connection with an alkaline attack which left a woman with potentially life-changing injuries, and hospitalised 10 other people.
Described as having "significant injuries to the right side of his face", he was last seen boarding a train at London King's Cross underground station just over an hour and a half after the attack in Lessar Avenue, Clapham.
Here's a timeline of how events have unfolded so far.
Wednesday
0.15am
- Ezedi's vehicle is seen in Newcastle, where he had been living. He then drove down to London in the "very, very early hours" of Wednesday morning, Metropolitan Police Commander Jon Savell said.
6.30am
- Ezedi's vehicle was seen travelling into Tooting.
4.30pm
- Ezedi's vehicle was spotted again in south London, this time in Croydon.
7pm
- A further sighting of Ezedi's vehicle was made in Streatham.
7.25pm
- The attack on a 31-year-old woman, believed to be known to Ezedi, who was with her daughters, aged three and eight, takes place.
- Ezedi attempted to drive away from the scene, but crashed into a stationary vehicle and fled on foot.
- The Metropolitan Police was called to the scene, with 12 people, including five officers, injured.
7.33pm
- Ezedi was seen boarding a train at Clapham South tube station.
7.59pm
- Ezedi was pictured leaving a train at King's Cross tube station.
8.42pm
- Ezedi was seen with significant injuries at a Tesco Express shop on Caledonian Road, in north London.
- He is believed to have bought a bottle of water before leaving the shop and turning right.
9pm
- Police tracked Ezedi, with the help of the public, back to King's Cross tube station, where he boards a Victoria Line tube southbound.
Thursday
Around 9.30am
- Scotland Yard says the 31-year-old woman and three-year-old girl have potentially life-changing injuries.
1.35pm
- Ezedi’s identity is revealed and members of the public are warned to stay away from him.
- The Met said it is working with Northumbria Police as the wanted man may be trying to return to the North East.
4pm
- There was a heightened police presence on Caledonian Road, as unmarked cars with blue sirens could be seen and police vehicles drove around the area.
6pm
- The image of Ezedi buying a bottle of water is released.
Friday
3.40pm
- The Met reveal that five search warrants were executed on Thursday night - two in east London and three in Newcastle - which led to the recovery of "significant and important pieces of evidence".
- Commander Savell issues an appeal to Ezedi to "do the right thing and hand yourself in".
