What the Queen's schedule had been before her night in hospital
The Queen had a busy October schedule before she cancelled her visit to Northern Ireland and Buckingham Palace has now confirmed she spent a night in hospital.
The monarch was ordered to rest by doctors and advised to cancel her two-day trip to Northern Ireland, which had been scheduled to begin on Wednesday, after attending a number of engagements.
The 95-year-old Head of State went to hospital for “preliminary investigations” on Wednesday night but returned to Windsor on Thursday, the palace said.
It is said the overnight stay was for practical reasons and the Queen was "in good spirits" and back at her desk on Thursday afternoon undertaking light duties.
Here is what the 95-year-old monarch has been up to since her return to Windsor Castle at the start of October:
October 6
The Queen held two virtual audiences at Windsor with the Greek ambassador and the ambassador for Belize.
She then met Canadian troops from 1st Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, and later had a telephone audience with Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
October 7

October 12:
The Queen attended a Westminster Abbey service of thanksgiving to mark the centenary of the Royal British Legion. She was accompanied by Princess Anne.
She was seen using a walking stick at the abbey. It is believed it was the first time she used a walking aid at a major public event.
The Queen also did not arrive by the traditional great west door but via the poet’s yard entrance, a shorter route to her seat.
Both developments are understood to be tailored for the Queen’s comfort. Buckingham Palace had declined to comment.
October 13
The monarch has a face-to-face audience with pianist Dame Imogen Cooper to present her with the Queen’s Medal for Music. She also holds three other audiences.
October 14
The Queen travelled to Cardiff to deliver a speech at the sixth session of the Welsh Senedd.
