ITV News Scotland Correspondent Peter Smith explains why our pets have been getting podgy during the pandemic

Many of us have put on some extra weight since the pandemic started, and now there's evidence the same is true of our pets.

Dog and cat owners stuck at home with their furry friends during lockdown have been dishing out the streets - making already worrying levels of pet obesity even worse.

Even Oscar, once the proud PDSA slimmer of the year, has piled on the pounds.

"He's getting a bit heavy," admitted owner Karen Allen.

And Oscar isn't alone, the PDSA says 1.4 million pets have put on weight during the pandemic - with our four-legged friends in Scotland some of the biggest in the country.
