UK Covid cases increase by 21,952 as further 24 deaths reported

A further 21,952 people have tested positive for Covid in the past 24-hour reporting period, according to the latest figures from the UK government.

In the 24 hours to 9am on Monday, another 24 deaths have been recorded within 28 days of a positive Covid test.

It bring the total according to the measure to 129,743.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 154,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

The latest figures come as over 50s are set to find out if they will soon be offered a coronavirus booster jab, with a decision due to be made by vaccination experts in the next few weeks.

England

A further 17 deaths were reported in England, as well as 19,175 confirmed cases.

Wales

One death has been reported by Public Health Wales and 1,106 new cases.

Scotland

One further death has been reported by health authorities in Scotland and 799 cases.

Northern Ireland

In Northern Ireland, 17 deaths have been reported and 872 cases.
