Icebreaker: Lone row boat stops remote Finnish island from being frozen in

  • Senja Larsen filmed her partner pushing the flotilla

A couple quarantining on a remote Finnish island at risk of freezing have taken matters into their own hands to avoid being stranded.

Mårten Mickos pushed the ice flotilla that had formed off the shore out with a rowing boat. His partner, journalist Senja Larsen filmed the action.

She said the boat was the only means they had to access the mainland.“We are on a remote island in the Finnish archipelago. Expecting to be iced in any time soon. This can take up to six weeks," she wrote under her video.

"The ice might not carry and we may not be able to use the boat. So we began moving the ice.”
