Snow, rain and ice to hit UK as Met Office issues yellow warnings
Heavy snow is forecast to hit large parts of Wales, while small flurries could hit London and parts of the south east of England.
Treacherous icy conditions and heavy rain will also affect many people in the UK.
It comes after parts of Scotland were blanketed by up to 19cm of snow overnight on Thursday, while areas in south west England had almost 30mm of rainfall.
Met Office has issued a yellow warning for large parts of Wales and parts of the south west of England, including Gloucestershire. The warning is in force until 6pm on Saturday.
Meanwhile, torrential rain is forecast across Cornwall and much of Devon, bringing the risk of flooding and transport disruption. The warning is in place until 8pm on Saturday evening,
And a separate yellow warning for ice covers much of the north east of England and large parts of Scotland until 11am, bringing dangerous conditions for drivers.
Met Office says 15-25mm of rain could fall widely across the country, with 40-50mm possible near to the south coast in the Devon area.
The Environment Agency has 74 flood warnings in place across England, meaning immediate action is required and 231 alerts, meaning flooding is possible - as of 7am on Saturday.
There are also five flood alerts in place for Wales.
Met Office spokesperson Nicola Maxey said the rain will be moving into the country from the south west.
She said: “From Friday evening we’ve got a series of weather fronts bringing rain across Cornwall and much of Devon until tomorrow.
“As this rain starts to move north it will combine with cold air already over the UK, causing snow across much of Wales, where up to 20cm could fall in the highest regions.
“Over the weekend large swathes of the UK will see some form of snow, with warnings in place for much of Scotland and the north east of England.
“Even parts of London and the South East should see a small flurry, which is unlikely to settle.”
Ms Maxey said the weekend will be very cold, with frost developing in the mornings. The highest temperatures will reach 6C.
She said: “As we move into next week another front will move in from the South West with long periods of snow and icy conditions for most of England, Wales and Scotland.
“Up to 5cm is expected off the coasts, which will reach highs of 15cm in the higher areas in Scotland and Wales.”
Snow and ice is also expected in much of England and Wales between Monday and Wednesday, with weather warnings already in place.
