Beirut explosion: City pays tribute to fallen heroes one week on from blast

This time a week ago, the world was trying to process what had happened in Beirut.

Today in a minute of silence, the noise and destructive power of that enormous blast was remembered and re-lived.

In the chaos, after the first fire broke out, firefighters ran towards the flames and without knowing, towards thousands of tonnes of dangerous chemicals.

One station lost ten men. The head of the service said they would have lived, if only they'd been warned what was in that dockside warehouse.
