Princess Anne's children praise 'tenacious' mother on 70th birthday
Princess Anne's son and daughter had to work hard to sum up their mother's character succinctly in an ITV documentary to mark her 70th birthday.
Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall were asked to describe their mother in a single word in Anne: The Princess Royal at 70, but immediate responses were not forthcoming.
"Tenacious, I think, is a pretty good word to sum her up," Peter said while his sister floundered to come up with an answer.
"I don't think you can sum her up in one word," says Zara. "It's a bit stingy."
Given an extension of three words, Zara offered: "Ok...Professional…Caring…Honest".
Made over the course of a year – both before and after lockdown - the film includes interviews with the Princess, her husband, Sir Tim Laurence, and her children as well as colleagues and staff.
The cameras follow her at home and abroad and look back on the extraordinary life of the first royal Olympian.
Viewers hear her forthright views on everything from hair-styles, home-schooling and the honours system to her charities, her schooldays and a failed kidnap attempt.
Anne: The Princess Royal At 70 was first broadcast on ITV last week. The extended version is ITV on 4 August at 10.45pm and available on the ITV Hub.
