UK coronavirus death toll rises by 119 to 45,878

The UK coronavirus fatalities has risen to 45,878 after a further 119 reported deaths of patients who tested positive for Covid-19 in hospitals, care homes and the wider community, as of 5pm on Monday.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have now been more than 56,400 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

The government also said in the 24-hour period up to 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 581 lab-confirmed cases.

Overall, a total of 300,692 cases have been confirmed.

England

A further 12 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital in England, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals to 29,303, NHS England said.

Patients were aged between 45 and 99 years old and all had known underlying health conditions.

Another two deaths were reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.

Wales

There are no new deaths of people who tested positive for coronavirus in Wales, with the number remaining at 1,549 , Public Health Wales said.

The total number of cases in Wales increased by 21 to 17,191.

Scotland

No new coronavirus deaths have been recorded in Scotland for the 12th day running, keeping the total toll at 2,491, Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

There were four new cases of patients who tested positive for coronavirus, taking the country's total cases to 18,558.

Northern Ireland

No further deaths have been recorded with Covid-19 in Northern Ireland, the Department of Health said, leaving the total number of people who have died at 556.

Another nine positive cases have been noted since Monday, bringing the total confirmed cases in the region to 5,921, according to the department.
