UK coronavirus deaths rise by seven in lowest increase since early March

The coronavirus death toll in UK hospitals, care homes and the wider community has risen by seven to 45,759, the lowest number reported since March 12, the government said.

The figures do not include all deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK, which are thought to have passed 55,000, according to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) said it would pause the publication of daily death figures for the whole of the UK, after Health Secretary Matt Hancock ordered a review into claims by researchers that there were "statistical flaws" in how they were calculated.

The government also announced that in the 24-hour period up to 9am on Monday, there had been a further 685 lab-confirmed cases. Overall, a total of 300,111 cases have been confirmed in the UK.
