UK coronavirus death toll rises to 45,677 as further 123 deaths reported

The UK coronavirus death toll has risen to 45,677 after a further 123 reported deaths of patients who tested positive for Covid-19.

The figure includes those who died in hospitals, care homes and the wider community after testing positive for coronavirus in the UK as of 5pm on Thursday.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have now been more than 56,100 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

England

Of the latest UK-wide reported deaths, 16 occurred in hospitals in England, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths to 29,247, NHS England said.

Patients were aged between 58 and 104 years old and all had known underlying health conditions. No deaths were reported in the East of England, London and South West regions.

Scotland

No deaths of people who tested positive for Covid-19 have been recorded for eight consecutive days in Scotland, meaning the toll there remains at 2,491.

Wales

In Wales, no new deaths of people who tested positive for coronavirus were reported on Friday. The total death toll there remains at 1,548, Public Health Wales said.

The total number of cases in Wales increased by 45, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 17,075.

Northern Ireland

While in Northern Ireland no further Covid-19 deaths were reported on Friday - the death toll there remains at 556.
