The UK's coronavirus death toll has risen to 44,236 after a further 16 people were confirmed to have died after testing positive for the infection.

Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland did not report a single new death related to Covid-19 in the 24-hour period up to 9am on Monday, July 6.

It is the lowest daily rise since March 16, when the same number of deaths were registered.

Within the latest deaths, a further 15 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital in England, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals to 28,904, NHS England said.

There is normally a lag in the reporting of deaths over the weekend, meaning the figures can be lower than the reality.
