Global coronavirus cases jump by more than 200,000 in record daily spike
The world saw its biggest one-day increase in confirmed coronavirus cases on Saturday, according to a World Health Organization (WHO) report.
Almost half of the 212,326 cases were recorded in the US and Brazil, with India too tallying a significant increase.
The previous record for a 24-hour increase was set on June 28, when the global count jumped by 189,077.
The death toll increased by 5,134 on Saturday to more than 531,000 fatalities.

In the US, which accounts for almost a quarter of global deaths, 53,213 cases were confirmed in 24 hours, taking its total figure up to 2,724,433.
There was an increase of 48,105 in Brazil, which has the second highest number of cases in the world at 1,496,858, while India saw its figure jump by 22,271 to 648,315.
The next highest increase was reported in South Africa, with 9,063 new cases taking its overall tally up to 177,124
