Body of handcuffed man pulled from Southampton river two months after police detained him

The body of a handcuffed man has been pulled from a river more than two months after he was detained by police.

The discovery was made in the River Itchen at Woodmill in Southampton.

Identification has now taken place and police have confirmed the body is of a 22-year-old man from Southampton.

Hampshire Police confirmed he was handcuffed, having been detained in the city on January 12.

A police spokesman said: "Initial enquiries suggest the body had been in the water for some time.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

"An internal review is ongoing and a file is being prepared for the coroner."
