Rodrigo and Gameiro goals see Valencia beat Athletic Bilbao as the hunt for European football next season hots up

Rodrigo and a late finish from serial substitute Kevin Gameiro was enough For Valencia to see off a spirited Athletic Bilbao challenge.

Both sides still have European football aspirations for next season but it was Valencia who sealed the three points to put the pressure on.

Rodrigo's sumptuous strike early in the second half set Valencia on their way and although Athletic were neat and tidy in possession, they never really threatened to get back on level terms.

Kevin Gameiro's late introduction produced an expected result. Gameiro has scored more goals as a substitute than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues in the last 10 seasons and once again got on the scoresheet off the bench.
